Update From Mis Marcile

It feels good to get back to normal life here in Haiti after being back in the States to visit family and friends! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing my new nephew and just being with family and friends. I got to experience the cold! My least favorite thing in the states🤪.

We've been having some pretty full clinic days and some very stressful days! I think the most stressful thing for me working in the medical field here in Haiti is finding hospitals to transfer our patients to. We are a small, out patient clinic so the patients that have needs we can't take care of here need to be sent to a bigger hospital that can take care of them.

Right now we are trying to get one of our regular bandage patients, Selik to a hospital that can amputate his foot. He has been coming here for years with a wound that just has not been healing even after being to several different hospitals and being on tons of meds. He is in alot of pain and its getting worse, and he's begging us to take him somewhere to amputate. So within the next couple days we are going to try to get him into a hospital that can help him.

On Thursday we had a mom come in, in premature labor. We are not equipped here to take care of premature babies and usually transfer but this time the mother was progressing quite fast and after discussing our options we decided its safer to keep her here than deliver a premature baby on the road. As the closest hospital we could transfer her to where they would be able to give her proper care was atleast 5 hrs away. This dear mother quietly and quickly delivered a premature baby girl. I was surprised at the baby's size 5lbs 5oz. I was expecting she would be smaller! We worked on her for about 2 minutes before she gave us a good strong cry and opened her eyes! We kept her on a heating pad and oxygen and she seemed to be doing fine, we checked on her regularly.  On Friday morning when I went to check on her I was alarmed at her color and breathing. We immediately evaluated to situation and decided to transport... but we didn't realize how difficult of a time we would have trying to get her to a hospital that had what she needed. We finally got her loaded on the machine and headed out to a hospital that had already said that they were too full to take her but we were out of options and couldn't lose anymore time... she died about an hour out the trail. My heart was filled with pain as I prayed for the mother and tried to comfort her. I struggled with asking God, "Why?".  When we try so hard to do everything we possibly can....but I know God has a reason for everything.

Recently we made the trip to the Fondeblanc hospital with Patrick. He had been having stomach issues and needed a new wheelchair.

We are excited about the work starting on the new birth center! Patrick's house will need to be taken down and new one has been recently built for him. So today there was a "work day" cleaning his house and around the house before he moves in.

We are having alot of patients right now with scabies... there seems to be an epidemic of them right now!  its an intensely itchy skin infestation caused by a mite. This little baby has a mild case of scabies.

 Hello  everyone from sunny south

Today its started out to be a beautiful sunny day here in Haiti , now the clouds are rolling in looks like it could possibly rain again . We have had quit a bit of rain the last couple days which is real nice cuz it seemed to be getting dry an this rain seems to be perfect 4 all the gardeners!

This past week my parents came to visit me an I really enjoyed there stay . There visit got extended a couple days due to some unrest in Port . Also with them  went Marcille an Jacinda.  Marcille is on furlough for 2 weeks . Jacinda term is up, made us all sad to see her leave we enjoyed her so much . She served here for a year as domestic help , now Loraine stutzman came to take her place!

Seems like this past week was really full . I did my first stitch job on a little boys  ,he had fallen on a rock making a little gash in his forehead. Only took 3 stitches an last time we saw it , it was healing up real nicely.  Yesterday  afternoon a little girl came with a cut on her forehead an she was not planning to let us stitched it up , she was a feisty little thing I held her down while mis Junie (a haitian nurse ) did her best to put a couple stitches in !

Little boy that got a gash on his forehead all wrapped up an ready to go

27th of January we had a month old baby coming in her mom had a real bad breast infection , baby weighed 5lbs 7oz . My mom had fun bathing an feeding the baby , she is gaining weight already her little face is becoming fatter 🥰  so good to see that !

The little 5lb 7oz baby !

2 little girls that were born here at the clinic !
My mom an me holding the 2 little girls!

My parents brought  some seeds for us girls  , so were having fun seeing what we can all grow ! They all started off great now to see if we can keep them alive ! 😊

Planting our seeds !

Our plants that are still nicely growing!

Sunday afternoon we hiked up to the mountain to our favorite grassy spot with some of the neighborhood youth we sang some songs together in creole, made a bonfire an than roasted hot dogs than just spend the rest of the afternoon up there playing game . Me an Marcile had to run back down to the clinic to wrap up a little girls hand that she had cut between her fingers on some tin. After we were done we hiked back up the mountain plus all the rest of the family as we were planning to have supper up there but as soon as everyone was up on the mountain it started to rain so we all headed back down, till we got to the bottom of the mountain the trail was getting slippery by the minute .seems as soon as it rains those trails get slick like ice . We than just ate our supper in the gazebo. Thankful that we have a nice dry place to go too when it rains! Unlike some of our friends !

Our sunday afternoon on the mountain!

Time here has taught me a lot . I realize how much God has blessed me with ,seeing  how many things I take so often for granted an  Just learning to bless other people with things I've been blessed with ! Our life on this earth is but a vapor may we live every moment for Jesus.

Update from Mis Marcile

Sorry about our absence... this post has been long in coming... I've sat down a couple times trying to get something written but every time I start so many memories come flooding into my mind and I get lost!

Our last day of clinic for 2020 was on December 18th. We ended our day with a clinic and mission staff Christmas party! Every one was excited for the upcoming vacation. To say the least the next couple weeks had looked very overwhelming to me... we had big days ahead of us filled with inventory of all the meds and supplies we had in our depots and pharmacy, a thorough cleaning of the whole clinic scrubbing top to bottom, painting, reorganizing and more. As we tackled each project I was amazed at how well things moved along!

Towards the end of our Cleaning a team of amazingly sweet people showed up and pitched in with the painting and all the extra stuff we didn't get done! I was also soooo thankful for their help when clinic opened again as we are short staffed and the first couple day were extremely busy.

New years Eve was spent on top of a little grassy Noll behind our mission compound. We often hike up there for service or just to get away to relax... A picnic supper and the fresh cool air was extremely invigorating as we watched the moon rise into the sky!

Our long awaited and much looked forward to vacation finally arrived on Jan 3rd! the excitement was high as we made the trip to Indigo beach/resort. The 3 Days we spent there were extremely refreshing. Then on the way back home we stopped in at the airport to pick up our new mechanic guy.

Here's a picture of us when we were at the beach.

Goodbye

It’s been just over a month since I left Haiti, and I still have a hard time believing that my time there came to an end so quickly. I left Haiti, the beginning of  December having spent a year serving as a pharmacist, along side two other Haitian pharmacists. Gloria Nolt, from Iowa came Nov. 14 to fill my place. We over lapped for 2 1/2 weeks, which was so good! I really enjoyed my time with her. She did an amazing job in jumping in and learning the ropes!

Thank you to those who supported me in prayer! God bless you all!

Birthing Center Project!

BIRTHING CENTER PROJECT

Gospel to Haiti*   is excited to announce a fundraiser for a brand new Birthing Center. For years, out of necessity, we have operated our birthing center out of the main clinic that we run in rural Haiti. This means that women in labor have to share the same recovery center with patients in all kinds of conditions. For years, we have dreamed of creating a center where Haitian women can give birth and recover in a facility designed for that purpose; where they can experience privacy and the best maternal care possible. Join us in making this opportunity reality!

Think of the unparalleled maternity care experienced here in the United States.

So, we are reaching out to you for help. The projected cost of the Birthing Center Project will is about $150,000.00. You can partner with us and make a difference! Your gift, no matter how great or small, will bring lasting physical and spiritual benefits to Haitian mothers and their babies for years to come. If 1,000 people gave only $150.00 each, we would reach our mark in no time! Would you consider helping us make a difference?

Do you need a year end tax break by charitable giving? Consider supporting the Birthing Center Project!

Friday, December 18, 2020

Hello everyone! Greetings to y'all from Haiti! I am Gloria Nolt! November 13th I made the big trip from Iowa to Haiti! Since than my days  have been full of experiences . This has been my first time in Haiti so upon arriving I really didn't know what to expect! So far I love it! I work in the pharmacy at the clinic, help deliver babies bandage up cuts, etc. What ever else needs to be done!

There's always so much to learn this pass week Autumn Stauffer came to visit us! We really enjoyed having her here for a couple of days and  I really appreciate it when she offered me her arm to practice putting IV in!

God never changes,  no matter where we are at ! His beautiful paintings,  his protecting hand, his love for his people and so much more! Its just as much here as it is the states! Some days are tough; you miss your family, there's the language barrier when you try to communicate with the people and it gets really frustrating, those crazy busy days, etc. It's those days that you really learn to trust God to help you through! You realize alone I am worthless but with God I can face the day in faith and know he will provide for our needs and for all the people around us!

One story that really stuck with me happened over the time Marcille was in the states for a wedding! It was 6:30 Sunday morning there was a knock at the gate announcing an emergency at the clinic , we rushed  out of bed up to  the clinic, upon arriving we found a big crowd (the whole Aleg town must have been there ) an in the middle of the crowd lay a cot which upon it lay a young mother in labor with high blood pressure an seizures (eclampsia). We rushed around did what we could an prepared her for the bumpy 2 hour  ride to another hospital! On the way there the baby was born an not In good shape at all they worked hard to keep him alive when they  finally arrived at there destination they thought the baby was gone , but it seemed to come back to life an they continue fighting for it !  After handling the mom an baby over to other nurses an doctor an hoping an Praying that they will both be ok the tired crew headed back up the mountains!  they arrived back at the mission with their story to tell of how people along the trail had given them blankets an towels to use (as they had grabbed none of that before they headed out ), an water! We didn't hear from the mom and baby for awhile but when we did it wasn't the best news the baby didn't survive💔 an the mom was still in the hospital! My prayer is that God would be with the family an comfort them all! John 16:33 In the world he shall have tribulation but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world!  In this world there gonna be hard things an  we don't understand why it happened but we know God is in control an has overcome this world! In that we can find peace!

God be with y'all! Thanks for all your support and prayers!
Love, Mis Gloria
